Ylang-Ylang oil comes from its flowers. The flowers are distilled in stages to produce the oil. The first stage or fraction is known as “extra,” or “superior.” Because of its sweet floral scent, it is usually for use in perfumery and aromatherapy. The following fractions are labeled as 1st, 2nd or 3rd. All of these 4 steps are then combined in various proportions to produce balanced essential oil therapeutic compounds.
For the quality sweet scent of the Ylang-Ylang oil, the flowers must be regularly pruned and maintained. The blossoms must be harvested in the morning while the dew is still on the ground. And it must be distilled immediately to capture the best of its aromatic benefits.
