  • The flowery, citrus fragrance of Bergamot Oil comes from the rind of the Bergamot Orange. Grown primarily in Southern Italy, this sour fruit, although inedible is prized for the fragrant oil in the skin. Since 1714, French perfume makers have used the oil. It is one of the few essential oils made from cold-pressing, the same process as olive oil.

What is Bergamot oil used for?

Bergamot has been used in traditional medicine from Southeast Asia to southern Europe for centuries. Here are a few of the uses of Bergamot essential oil.

    Ingredient for Fragrances

Because of its strong citrus scent, you’ll find bergamot in many commercial fragrances. Fragrance designers blend Bergamot with other essential oils, like lavender and cedarwood, to create unique scents.

    Citrus Flavoring

Over one hundred years ago, German tobacconists began adding bergamot oils to their tobacco to add a unique flavor and aroma. Today, Earl Grey tea owes its character to the addition of Bergamot oil.

    Repels Insects

Farmers grow bergamot trees around their fields to help ward off pests. You can add a few drops of this essential oil to a diffuser or vaporizer to create a natural bug repellant.

    Relieves Chest and Nasal Congestion

Adding Bergamot to your vaporizer can loosen mucus and ease congestion.

    Natural Deodorizer

Create a pleasant body or room deodorizer by adding Bergamot oil to a sprayer filled with water. It kills odor-causing germs and masks unpleasant odors.

    Aids Digestion

Blend a couple of drops of Bergamot oil with a carrier oil such as coconut oil. Rub a few drops onto your stomach to help stimulate your digestive juices. The increased digestive activity allows the body to absorb more of the nutrients from the food you eat.

    Stress Reliever

Bergamot essential oil helps the body produce serotonin and dopamine that provides a calming effect on your body. Just add two drops into a diffuser and inhale deeply to feel the benefits.

    Promotes Healing

When used in conjunction with other healing treatments, a few drops of Bergamot oil in a diffuser helps fight internal and external infections. If you think you have an infection, check with your healthcare professional.

    Natural “Anti-Depressant”

It helps boost your dopamine levels, improves blood flow and provides a better feeling of well-being, naturally. Bergamot oil helps to stimulate your appetite and energy levels.

    Increases Healthy Hormone Production

When your hormones (the endocrine system) are balanced, you feel healthy and alive. Bergamot essential oil aids in boosting metabolism regulates blood sugar and blood pressure by stimulating the right hormones
